Specification Drawings

i have completed spec drawings for the original designs. these were created using Adobe Illustrator, and i have tried to make them as detailed as possible. my favourite feature about them is the fill pattern, as these colours and this pattern are extremely close to the colours and pattern i originally was aiming for. I think the thing i could most improve is the accuracy of the lines, especially at the hem of the second dress.

now i have finished my toile, i have my completed pattern pieces.

these images show the process of going from the first draft to the final pattern, i added flare and removed the darts  and added seam allowance in the 3 steps.

I will cut 2 of each of the final pattern pieces to create the skirt of the dress.

Intricate beading

Now i have started my final dress, i have begun the beading on the front of the bodice. the beading will be in a paisley pattern, similar to these.

i enjoy hand beading as it is something i have done since i was little, so i find it easy to sit down and spend hours sewing beads. the paisley design fits in with my original 1960s theme, as paisley was very popular then.

Illustration Board 2

The last illustration board also take inspiration from Sophie Toulouse's work, however this one is alot more minimalistic and simple. This board is also only black and white to add to the minimalistic effect.

I took inspiration from Sophie Toulouse's illustrations for my first 2 illustration boards which represent designs i had previously created.

the emphasis on these boards is the bold black and white contrast, yet also the intricate line details.

Sophie Toulouse

I have been looking at various illustrators for the Fashion Visualisation unit. I liked Sophie Toulouse's work because of the intricate lines and details. I found the simplicity of the black and white with hints of colour and the complexity of the line work very interesting.

Toile attempt for the final dress

I have decided to be more creative with the design, so i have gone back and re designed the patterns. the patterns are similar to the original designs, however it is now split into the bodice and the skirt, which means it is easier to adapt and change the shape of the skirt while not adapting the bodice. i have also added 10cm on each side of the skirt panel, which will hopefully be enough flare however i may add more flare if it is not enough.

After i created the bodice i found that it was too small on the bust area. i think this is because i must have gone wrong when reducing the ease, as the solution to this problem was to insert a dart like shape along the seam. now i have improved the bodice i will take it in at the centre front seam, then i will construct the toil of the skirt then attach it to the bodice at the waist.

on the final dress the bodice will be 2 layers and the skirt will be 3, this is to add extra volume to the skirt to give it the overly flared effect. i will also use beads to add detail onto the top layer.
